With a degree in business administration, career opportunities are numerous. Essentially, business administrators and people with business administration degrees are pretty much vital in most organizations, corporations and most types of businesses.

In essence, business administration careers often entail leading, organizing and controlling specialized sections of a business, making sure the day-to-day operations run smoothly.

Some of the key strengths that a business administrator should try and cultivate are leadership, the ability to plan, organizational skills and good interpersonal relationships. Often, being at the controlling level of a certain part of the business requires a cool head and the ability to make decisions confidently and efficiently.

One of the great things about having a business administration degree is the fact that it is one of the most flexible around. While a business administration degree can help you get a job in a wide range of careers, a recent graduate will often find themselves starting out as a business’ specific department manager. Within that business or company there are usually many different departments with each having their own business administrator to oversee, organize, plan and control all of the duties of that specific department. For example, you could find yourself in charge of the sales department, manufacturing department or accounting department, making sure it is running properly. Each of those departments will have to work closely with each other and therefore you’ll have to be able to communicate effectively with other management administrators.

Above the level of department manager, business administrators can rise to the level of operations manager. Operations managers will generally be in control of an entire series of individual departments. This is more of a supervisory role that oversees all departments.

Becoming a businesses department manager or operations manager is just one of the myriad paths that somebody with a business administration degree can take. Let’s take a look at some of the other areas in which a business administration degree can take you:

  • CEO
  • CFO
  • Marketing and Advertising
  • Sales
  • Public Relations
  • Accounting
  • Telecommunications
  • Operations Management
  • Product Management
  • Banking, Finance and Insurance
  • Tourism and Hospitality

Business administration career opportunities truly are endless and are consistently in demand. This is not to mean you are relegated solely to private businesses either. There are many government and non-profit organizations that also employ the services of business administration graduates.

As you can see business administration truly offers a flexible career path.

The Financial Management Association (FMA) offers continuing education training that keeps members at the cutting-edge of business and finance techniques.

The Business Professionals of America (BPA) is an association made up mostly of recent graduates of business administration and can help in job search opportunities as well as training. The goal of the organization is to prepare graduates for entry-level positions around the country.

Certification

Only those businesses administrators working for government organizations are required to take a state government certification test. The test requirements vary state-by-state and therefore you should look into the details of your particular area.

All in all business administration careers exist anywhere there is a business in this country and there the possibilities are endless!
